Canid Literary & Art a print journal committed to publishing poetry, short stories, creative nonfiction, and artwork that pays tribute to our best friend: dogs. We are committed to showcasing exciting and inclusive work across genres. Canid seeks work that challenges us to see the crossroads where the human and dog experiences meet in new and honest ways through both established and emerging voices. The only submission criteria is that the piece either is about or includes dogs.
SUBMISSIONS CLOSED
From September 1, 2026 to September 30, 2026, the Canis Literary & Art Staff will be accepting submissions for the 2026 issue. We will be processing our submissions through email, and turnaround will be roughly two to four weeks. If you have not heard from us by November 15, feel free to send a follow-up email.
We offer a token payment of $5 (USD) per contributor, paid as a donation to Faithful Friends Animal Society (preferred) or any animal shelter of choice. The small payment amount isn’t reflective of the quality of contributor work—it’s just what we can afford with our current funding. There is no reading fee for submissions.
While we encourage simultaneous submissions, we ask you please withdraw any pieces that are accepted elsewhere. Submissions in multiple genres are also accepted.
Do not send us any of the following: fan fiction, work that could reasonably be deemed offensive, including work containing graphic violence, abusive behavior, or themes and language expressing hatred for any marginalized identity. We will never knowingly publish AI-generated work.
Follow us on social media or sign up for our newsletter for announcements about publication dates and submission updates.
